Shannon and Alan's engagement session was a very important one to me. I have a strong connection to this couple because because, well, they are practically family. Shannon is the daughter of my mother-in-law's best friend (did you follow all that?), so I have known her for quite a while! I was so excited when she asked me to be their photographer for their wedding next year, and immidiately we started planning their engagement session. Shannon knew she wanted something soft and playfully romantic, and something that involved the beach. After much discussion we decided to go to Moonlight Beach in Encinitas for their engagement session.
And here's where part two of the specialness comes in. This engagement session was the perfect opportunity for me to visit my hometown of San Diego and see some of my friends and family! I was very excited when Sheri (my mother-in-law) said she wanted to come with us to their engagement session. I don't think too many of my friends or family have seen me at work, and a lot of them probably don't understand that what I do is so much more than "taking pictures" so I was stoked to have Sheri come along and see this part of my job! I checked with Shannon and Alan to make sure it was okay, and they said "of course!"
Shannon said she wanted to incorporate some fun props into her session, so she found a few cute things, including the save-the-date banner and the mr. and mrs. letters. I also had the idea of adding some oversized balloons, and my mother-in-law, who knows all the best sweets places in North County of San Diego gave us the idea of stopping for cupcakes at one of her favorite bakeries, Elizabethan Desserts. It was a perfect idea!
We got to the beach, and it was pretty busy. A beautiful weekend day in San Diego, what else could you expect!? But using a few sneaky lighting tricks, I was able to basically wash out the crowds and focus just on Shannon and Alan. I had so much fun playing on the beach with them, and I can't wait for their wedding next year!
